Essential Gutter Care for Property Protection

Why keeping your gutters clear and functioning is critical for the health of your roof and foundation.

The Role of Gutters

Gutters do more than just manage rain; they protect your home's foundation, siding, and landscaping from water erosion. When gutters fail, water overflows and can pool around the base of your home, potentially leading to basement leaks or structural issues.

Signs of Clogged Gutters

Look out for water spilling over the edges during a storm, sagging gutter sections, or plants growing in the gutter trough. Inside your home, water stains near the top of exterior walls can sometimes point to gutter overflow that is backing up under the roofline.

Routine Maintenance

Gutters should generally be cleared twice a year: once in the late spring and once in the late fall after the leaves have dropped. Ensure downspouts are completely clear so water flows freely away from the house.

When to Replace

If your gutters are heavily rusted, pulling away from the fascia board despite being re-secured, or have large cracks and holes, it may be time for a replacement. A properly sloped, seamless gutter system offers much better performance and peace of mind.
